It takes an army to save lives! Please fill out the online form below if you are interested in volunteering and becoming a lifesaver at The Animal League Wellness Center located in Leesburg, FL. We will contact you with upcoming orientation dates.

 

 

Qualifications

Volunteers must be reliable, have an understanding of The Animal League Wellness Center mission and goals, be flexible, and have a great love and compassion for our furry friends. Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age.

 

Volunteer Opportunities

  • Veterinary Assistance – Assist the clinic staff by providing care and maintenance of clinic kennel area and general observation and care of animals. Compassionate care is the top priority for all animals. Major Responsibilities include: keeping kennels clean, orderly, and free of odor; ensuring exam rooms and kennels are clean, orderly, and ready for use; changing blankets and sheets as needed; doing clinic laundry; observing pets in recovery stage from surgery.
  • Team Woof Transport Team – Volunteers help transport animals to and from our shelter for rescue runs, TNR (trap and release) program or veterinary visits. You must be 18 years of age with reliable transportation, valid car insurance, and the ability to put different size crates safely and securely in your vehicle. Completion of The Animal League Volunteer Orientation along with the Safety and Handling Training Session are required prior to initial transport.
  • Administrative Assistance – Provide administrative support to The Animal League Wellness Center administrative staff. Duties include answering phones, making online appointments, greeting and checking in clients and their pets, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Community Cat Volunteer – On high volume Community Cat day clinics, volunteers will provide general assistance to support our Community Cat TNR Program. Major Responsibilities include: moving cats in and out of cages; assisting staff with general clinic tasks (see above) and observation of cats post-surgery; ensuring traps are closed and clean, changing newspaper and sheet covering traps as necessary, and doing laundry as necessary.
  • Neighborhood Pet Program Community Outreach – Neighborhood Pet Program Community Outreach program carefully researches areas where residents have limited access or limited financial means to care for their pets and provides free resources such as general veterinary care including vaccinations and spay/neuter services. Volunteers are needed for onsite community outreach events, street canvassing, administrative support, hands-on support and a variety of other areas. Please visit the Neighborhood Pet Program website for more information on volunteer opportunities.
